UMM News from the Rally
The 2014 Annual Spiritual Rally held at Lake Junaluska on the last weekend of April was a great success. Happenings included:
Election of Conference officers. Neil Brown, a resident of Spruce Pine, was elected Conference President for the next two years. Neil is a Men’s Ministry Specialist and continues his assignment as District President of the Blue Ridge District. Neil is committed to helping our Western North Carolina Conference Methodist Men into the electronic age through use of a variety of internet tools including Facebook, Twitter and more. Other new officers and District Presidents are listed on other pages of this web site.
Successful Mission Event - “Stop Hunger Now”. On Saturday morning of the rally, approximately fifty UM men (and a few women) mustered at the Kern Youth Center at Lake Junaluska for a Stop Hunger Now event. Over 10,000 meals were packaged and boxed for shipment to needy families overseas. This project was completed in the morning and it was a great deal of fun for all participating. We appreciate the financial assistance of numerous WNC churches and individuals who raised the funds to enable the event.
Awards. Outgoing Conference President Henry (Hank) Dozier was awarded the coveted “Society of John Wesley” fellowship award. This award is the highest honor offered by the UMM Foundation for UMM. Fellows in the Society of John Wesley are known by their witness, vision and stewardship that enhance and strengthen the mission and ministry of the church. Hank received this award in recognition of his leadership and service as Conference President of UMM for the preceding four years.
